Foxcatcher

Screen Shot 2014-11-10 at 7.10.46 PM I saw a preview for 'Foxcatcher' last week at the movie theater and am now eagerly anticipating its debut this coming Friday. The biographical drama tells the story of Olympic Wrestling Champion Mark Shultz (played by Channing Tatum) and his deranged wealthy coach John du Pont (played by Steve Carell), who in 1996, murdered Shultz's brother, Olympic Champion Dave Schultz (played by Mark Ruffalo). Bennett Miller, the director of the film won Best Director Award in the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Watch the trailer here.

Look Up! Look Down!

Picture 24Picture 26Picture 25I'm making a point to watch more classic flicks, and that includes Thunderball, the fourth film in the James Bond series released in 1965. Although I can't exactly relate to Bond's smooth spy tactics, I can relate to the dreamy landscape, the full-figured female physiques, and just love the jet-set wardrobes, cocktail couture and lost notions of allure and romance...it's good to be Bond.

Chef

chef1I just saw 'Chef' the delightful feel-good flick meets culinary comedy about a chef who in the depth of his career, takes a risk to follow his passion for cooking, ultimately bringing him close to the things that matter most in his life, namely, his son. Thematically, we've all seen films of this sort, however I found it refreshing as a new-age, lighthearted reminder of the things dear to our personal joy. The film is accompanied by a fun cast, snappy soundtrack, and a road trip to some good old-fashioned cuisine capitals. View the trailer, here.

Let's Get Vintage

the butchersplendorI've been dying to see a movie in the theater and it just seems like nothing worthy of mention has been out recently. Vogue Online ran a piece on vintage "tearjerkers" to watch and a few peeked my interest, including Le Boucher and Splendor in the Grass (above). Time to get vintage, I suppose.

Shipyard Shorts

shipyard_shorts I touch down this morning in the Ocean State for an extended weekend visit with my family. I'm looking forward to attending NewportFILM's event this evening at the Newport Shipyard where the organization will showcase a collection of "adventure and eco docs". Among the collection, they will show North of the Sun, the Grand Prize Winner at BANFF Mountain Film Festival this year. The film chronicles the adventures of two young die hard surfers who conquer nine months of cold, Norwegian winter adventures on a remote, arctic island by the coast of Northern-Norway. Their mission:  tasty, COLD waves. (In fact, some of the world's best surfable waves are home to this often unchartered region). The sunset screenings begin at 8:15 PM ET, however guests have the option of attending the early portion of the evening. At 7:00 PM ET, guests are welcome to the Shipyard for libations and hors d'oeuvres, while taking part in a "meet & greet" with Atlantic Cup skippers. Frankly, the "spiked seltzer and PBR" concoction is reason enough to get me there early...

Goodness, Grace

grace1Tonight, marks the opening-night gala premiere of the biographical film Grace of Monaco in Cannes, part of the legendary international film festival. I was disheartened to read about the drama surrounding the roll-out of the film in the NYTimes this morning, but do hope Harvey Weinstein and his company sort out the alleged mess in short order. The film is a highly anticipated one for me personally, and it's a shame to read about such political haste. Be sure to watch the trailer here.

Finally!

MademCAs I mentioned upon it's debut, I couldn't wait to see Mademoiselle C, the documentary that follows the eternally chic Carine Roitfeld as she moves to New York from her post as former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief to launch her own magazine. Last night, I was finally able to watch the film via iTunes. It is a wonderful work of art that gives you a peek into the mysteriously genius world of Carine, the development of the magazine and her greatest loves in life - career and beyond. Below, enjoy some photographs of the style icon and be sure to read this interview featured in the Huffington Post to see what Carine says about going naked under the trench coat...

Wes Anderson Delivers

wesanderson1You bet your bottom dollar you'll find me at the movie theater Friday evening with wide eyes for Wes Anderson's latest creation, "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Historically, Wes Anderson's films haven't tickled the fancy of all movie folk, however this one is worthy of giving a second glance. Critics are already calling it "the film of the year" and there seems to be new cheery chatter every day. Be sure to read this article in the NY Times before you buy your popcorn (or hot dog, in my case).

Keeping Tabs

twofaces-coupleI will most definitely be keeping tabs on The Two Faces of January, a thriller based on the 1964 novel by Patricia Highsmith. The film, expected to be released in a few months, stars Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen and Oscar Isaac who are caught up in a murder in Athens. Behind the film is the author of The Talented Mr. Ripley, which alone, will seduce many movie goers and is perhaps responsible for the film's old school noir trope style.
